| As both a teacher and a student, my most satisfying experiences in the classroom have occurred during the strange spell of a discussion or lecture, when it has become possible for me to actually see the world differently. I believe that it is within these challenging "a-ha" moments when we reach our true potential and gain our most permanent knowledge and insights. Knowing that it is possible to evoke such uncanny episodes --- moments when we truly think outside our sphere of habits, drives my personal teaching philosophy and shapes my instruction.
Grade 6 English/Social Studies This year, 6th graders will be studying a variety of classic American and British authors and poets including works from Robert Frost, Ray Bradbury and Rudyard Kipling. We will read several works of literature as well as work diligently on our interpretation and essay skills. The John Collins Writing Program will be at the focal point of our composition development as we strive to improve our written communication skills in every subject. This structure will certainly allow students to grow in their comfort level for writing. In Social Studies we will work on learning geography and celebrating the many cultures of the world this year. Topics studied will include, ancient Egypt, Ancient China, Greece and Rome. Research projects, hands on activities as well as essays will be completed. I believe that each one of us is unique; with our own God given talents. It is my desire to not only challenge my students but also to celebrate them.
“And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. (Luke 11:9-10)
