| First grade is an incredible experience. After all, seven is magic, and most first graders are seven at some point in the year. First graders learn to be students, learning skills they will use in future grades and throughout their lives. It is amazing how much they learn just in one year!
First grade concentrates on reading and mathematics. We spend a great deal of time on decoding to become fluent readers. Math is also a big component of the first grade curriculum. First graders learn to add, subtract, tell time, and count money. Socially, first graders continue to learn to be with each other. They learn about the Golden Rule and try to apply it every day. In religion, first graders learn about our loving God and his gift to us, Jesus.
I am very blessed to be in first grade and see the transformation from day one to the last day of school. It is my honor to make a difference as an educator.
