St. Mary’s School in Melrose is a pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade Catholic Elementary School in the Archdiocese of Boston. When the school first opened its doors in 1909, it was staffed by the Sisters of the Holy Child Jesus. Today the staff is comprised of dedicated lay people who are committed to Catholic education. For more than a century, St. Mary’s School has provided its school community with faith formation, academic excellence and a rich history of tradition.
The Archdiocesan curriculum guidelines, consistent with the state of Massachusetts frameworks, are followed for the teaching of all secular subject areas. The curriculum is marked by current content and fresh approaches to methodology. There is an emphasis on principles rather than fact, and on learning through problem solving rather than by precept. We strive to offer a program that makes use of many sources of reading material, a wide variety of audio-visual and technology tools and a multi-text approach to the content areas.
The school's curriculum stresses academic achievement within a Christian community where each child feels that he/she is loved and respected bt his/her peers and teachers. At St. Mary's, we attempt to "teach as Jesus did."
